A top priority of the Circle of Friends is to identify and recruit new Board members to reflect the diversity of the state in terms of geography, inclusiveness and expertise.
Another priority of the Circle of Friends members is to identify partner organizations in their communities, participate in Florida Humanities sponsored events in their communities, and to support 50th anniversary activities.
In two recent years, Florida Humanities did not receive an appropriation from the State, resulting in about a 25% reduction in revenue and underscoring the need to expand Florida Humanities’ modest fundraising efforts. Circle of Friends members can support development goals by identifying and introducing Florida Humanities’ leaders and staff to individuals and organizations with the capacity to support Florida Humanities’ programs or to create an endowment for specific humanities’ activities.
The Florida Humanities Board recently adopted a membership structure with levels from Friend ($35/year) to Altruist ($1,200/year). The new membership tiers can be reviewed at right. Circle of Friends members should join Florida Humanities at one of the membership levels?
Similar to other alumni organizations and the structure of the Florida Humanities, the leadership of Circle of Friends will consist of a President or Chair, President-elect or Chair-elect; Immediate Past President or Immediate Past Chair, ; and Secretary. The President or Chair of the Circle of Friends also should sit as an ex officio member of the Florida Humanities Board during his or her term in office?
Members of the Circle of Friends should be invited to remotely attend three meetings of the Florida Humanities Board each year and attend in-person the annual meeting of the Board at their own expense.
The Immediate Past Chair of the Florida Humanities Board should act as the liaison between the Board and the Circle of Friends.
